Our startup was “mind blowing” for just a few short months.
Before ChatGPT our product seemed “impossible”. We could automatically edit meeting recordings into quality highlight-reel videos.
“But how is this possible?!” was the most common response.
Then a few months later ChatGPT launched and catastrophically raised the bar for intelligence. This article tells the story of how we tried to adapt.
Backstory.
Why edit meeting recordings?
This is because in my first startup people would love us on the demo, but it was hard to keep the momentum.
To combat this I started manually editing Zoom recordings. So I had a brilliant follow-up for each demo.
It worked but was way too much work. So I started automating as much as I could. This led me to build DemoTime.
Two key dates.
ChatGPT launched in November 2022. Previously “mind blowing” things were now everywhere. It couldn’t do meeting edits yet.
With GPT4 we started to get very, very nervous. It still couldn’t match our algorithm. But the major hurdle was just the context window.
Then in August 2023 GPT went Turbo. The context window was now sufficiently large to handle a full meeting transcript in a single prompt.
Test results: it’s terminal.
After running a bunch of tests, the sad news was that the relatively simple GPT-based pipeline was clearly the future. The quality was a little less but it was way more flexible.
We would be killing off the old version (2+ years of work). This meant deleting 80% of our codebase.
This wonderful algorithm which regularly got “how is this even possible!” responses in 2022 was declared obsolete in 2023.
I love and hate GPT
Obviously I hate the fact that our amazing algorithm got shelved. It was a work of art. But I love what our new GPT based pipeline can create.
We can now create magic highlight videos after any sales/demo meeting. And thanks to GPT we can include other things (the user’s use-cases, goals, questions, etc.)
And I love the simplicity of the new version. There’s no more onboarding. You upload a meeting recording & get your first highlight-reel video within an hour.
Thanks for reading.
If you know someone who sells online via. Zoom, Meet, Teams, etc. tell them to check out DemoTime. We transform every sales/demo meeting into these incredible video recaps. They are simply the best way to follow up after a sales/demo meeting – helping remind/reinforce the value (and helping your customer “sell for you” to their boss/team).
Everyone gets 10 free credits – so they can upload some sales/demo meeting recordings and see how it works for them.
We strongly believe that a great demo deserves to be re-used as a highlights video, and that this is the best way to follow up after a sales/demo meeting to boost conversion rates.
